My Time Here is Over

This collection of photos is from my BFA Exhibition from Syracuse University. The installation of the work consisted of a projected video and exhibited physical images in Shaffer Hall, the art building of Syracuse University.

My Time Here is Over

My work is about standing at the precipice of something new while also grasping onto the past. It is about being caught between the recognition that one has reached a moment in life when you must let go of the past because you have exited your childhood while the future feels amorphous, burdened, and daunting. I use the metaphor of travel and home as spaces to explore the emotional dynamic at play through my own coming of age. I leave unanswered what is ultimately safer: the sanctuary of what feels like home and the safety of the known or the promise of travel and moving forward into the unknown. My practice is intentionally intimate and emotional because I believe in the power of emotions and intimacy (and shouldn’t have to justify it). The stream of accumulated photographs is meant to be transformative, sentimental, and yes, hopeful about how my time in new places is about to begin while my time is over in others.
